Love Interests: Okita Souji
Worked at Shieikan, and harbored feelings for Okita. When she confessed her feelings for him and expressed to desire to marry him, Okita rejected her because he wanted to solely concentrate on practicing the sword. Not able to withstand the rejection, she commited suicide right in front of his eyes.
Luckily, they were able to save her, and she soon left Shieikan afterwards. However, this whole experience left a huge scar in Okita who spent days and days crying and vomiting.
The mentality he had acquired after years of training was now in a horrible disarray, and he was unable to get her out of his mind no matter how hard he practiced.
It is then that he realized that he really did love her after all, but at the same time despised the weakness that sullied his very being.
Because of this, Okita does not feel very comfortable with the idea of falling in love.
Many years later, Sae once again returns into Okita's life and there they resolve the ghosts of the past. We also find that she is happily married and is carrying a child.
Whereas Sae seems to have been able to move on, unfortunately it is not so for Okita who is still unwilling to fall in love again.
Despite the urgings of the people around him, he cannot, and will not give love a second chance.
