In actuality, Kamiya Seizaborou is a young girl whose real name is Tominaga Sei. While masquerading as a boy, she joins the
Mibu-roushi (later renamed as the Shinsengumi) in hopes of avenging her beloved father and brother. A dangerous and perhaps foolhardy
thing to do, as she soon finds to her disappointment that the Mibu-roushi are more akin to a bunch of party animals.
However, that opinion soon changes and she grows to love the Shinsengumi more and more.
Even after her revenge has been fulfilled she chooses to stay, to continue being a "Bushi" and to protect Okita
no matter how dangerous and difficult it may.
Personality: Sei can be very stubborn, easily excitable, nosy, and a bit naive at times. Yet, she is also very honest, hardworking, and cares deeply
for the welfare of her comrades. She is quite adorable and is liked by many of the Shinsengumi. At one point, Kondou even wanted
to adopt her as his son! If anything, the one person whom she can't seem to get along with is Hijikata.
Interesting Tibits:
1) Although there is no evidence to prove it, there is a rumor that Okita had a sweetheart.
It was said to be that she was the daughter of a doctor, and they even had a girl together. Whether or not if she truly existed is
not known. However, there is a grave in Kouenji with the words "Okita's relation" inscribed on it. It belongs to a woman, who had passed
away before Okita did. Researchers believe that for some reason or another she was not able to marry him. It is also said that
Okita's family had attempted to search for her after Okita died. However, they could not find any such girl, and to this
day her existance is a mystery. On the other hand, there are claims stating that
Okita never had any sort of relationships with women.
2) Interesting enough, in Suzuki Tooru's "Shinsengumi Hyauwa" there is a list that compiles the five most beautiful men
in the Shinsengumi. Apparently, the most beautiful of them all was described as having skin as pale as a woman, the
voice of a woman, and so on - just like our dear "Kamiya Seizaborou!" Ultimately, he was
found out to by a spy from Choshu, and eventually executed by Harada Sanosuke.
