Ch 98 Summary
Summary by Suika

The photographer from the previous chapter comes to the Shinsengumi headquarters
looking for Okita. This does not go undetected by Hijikata and the other captains.
Hijikata mistakenly calls it “Hotography” and is corrected by Shinpachi but
the more he speaks the more he ends up provoking Hijikata’s ire. Later Harada,
Nagakura, and Toudou discuss amongst themselves more about Okita’s guest. Is
Okita going to take a photo shoot? Toudou is scared because he thinks that a
person will die after taking a picture. They then deduce that the photographer
is dropping off a developed picture and rush off to go see. Toudou doesn’t want
to go but is dragged off anyway.
Okita and Sei rush to see the photographer. Sei yells at the photographer because
she had specifically told him not to come to the headquarters. He laughs it
off and hands them the photo. Okita happily accepts it while Sei is extremely
worried about the repercussions if anyone were to find out about the photo.
She grabs it from him and decides to not let anyone lay a hand on it. Okita
tells her that she looked very cute all dressed up, though his comment makes
her very happy but that doesn’t change Sei’s mind. Okita asks for a glance but
Sei runs off with it.
Harada, Nagakura, and Toudou find Okita lying comically on the ground. Harada
asks if the guest had already left while Toudou worriedly pokes Okita and asks
him if he had taken a photograph. Okita is surprised that everyone knows, and
they continue to pester him about the photo. Unfortunately Okita slips out “Can’t.
Kamiya…”
Uh-Oh.
Meanwhile, Sei is wandering about, still angry about Okita being brainless
as ever. She decides to destroy the photo but takes a peek before doing so.
She is amazed at how lifelike and adorable Okita looks but hates that she turned
out terrible. Once again she takes up her resolve to destroy it but ends up
unable to do so.
Elsewhere, Hijikata appears to heading off somewhere and Saitou offers to accompany
him. Hijikata turns down the offer. The conversation continues on toYamazaki
and Choushuu. As Hijikata and Saitou continue on, a figure runs past them. Immediately
Harada, Nagakura and a dragged along Toudou run past while yelling that they
want to see it. Hijikata is flabbergasted at the scene but Saitou calmly tells
him just to forget about the ruckus.
Sei finds a hiding place and ends up overhearing the trio talking about the
photo. Nagakura remarks that Kamiya’s behavior is strange, while Harada laments
that even Okita could not get a peek at it. Toudou reasons that Kamiya must
be worried about the curse of photography and doesn’t want Okita to see it because
he’ll die if he takes a look at it. Despite it, Harada still wants to take a
look. He wonders if the photograph contains something that Okita doesn’t want
anyone knowing about. Nagakura suggests that Okita might have even taken a photo
with a pretty girl. It appears that they do not know that Sei was in the photo.
Sei sneaks off but is caught by Okita. He asks her if she really isn’t going
to let him see the photo. Sei regrets posing for the photo, as it’s brought
so many troubles. Okita apologizes, that he wasn’t thinking... but comments
that photo might be a memento to treasure one day. Sei is caught off guard by
his words and Okita sneakily grabs the photo. He is amazed at the lifelike quality
but turns beet red when he realizes that they look like a married couple.
They then decide to ask (Ake)Sato for help hiding the photo. However Maabou
does not like Sei’s presence (he views her as a love rival) and keeps pestering
her, watching her every movement. They then think of having Yamanami protect
the photo and they bury it beside his gravestone.
Later…
Sei announces her return and immediately is accosted by Harada, Nagakura, and
Toudou. She tells them that she burned the photo. Pretending that he doesn’t
know anything Okita asks her why. Sei won’t give a reason until Harada covers
up Okita’s ears. She tells the trio that Okita had taken a photo with a girl…
Nagakura is ecstatic that he guessed right, Harada is proud of Okita, while
Toudou wants to know why the photo was burned. Sei continues that the girl in
the photo… was headless! The trio run off scared witless.
Soon afterwards we see Hijikata coming to visit Yamanami’s grave. He notices
the newly upturned earth, and investigates. He is shocked to find “a ‘hotograph’
of Souji and… Kamiya?!”
