Ch 69 Summary

Summary by Suika

Beta version
This is a rough draft, as I have to admit I don't completely understand everything going on due to my limited Japanese. So please forgive me for any mistakes or misunderstandings!

The new recruits are receiving a welcoming speech from Kondou and the captains that they are assigned to. Sei welcomes the new members under Okita, and they are taken aback by the beautiful "boy". One of the new members named Nakamura steps forward and dumbly asks "Anta onago darou?" (Aren't you a girl?) Not a smart thing to say, as Sei angrily grabs his kimono, and yells at him. She then storms off, leaving everyone else in a tense mood. Souda and Yamaguchi step in and recount to the new members of Sei's accomplishments at the Ikeda-ya incident. Already, Nakamura seems to be quite taken by Sei.

During practice, a very tired Nakamura nearly passes out. As he lies on the ground, Sei suddenly appears right before him. She splashes water on him, and goes off to her other chores. She doesn't make it far when Harada intercepts, challenging her for a fight. Sei blocks his attack with a bucket, and then in a blink of an eye, pops right in the middle of his outstretched arms. She then proceeds to head-butt him right in the face, giving Harada a bloody nose and split lip. She yells at him stressing that she's busy (and has no time to play ^^).

Meanwhile, Nakamura has regained his strength, and takes this opportunity to ask Sei for a match. Sei is a bit reluctant, but he is determined. However, before he can react, Sei already has her hands on his neck, as if she were going to snap it off. Needless to say, Nakamura is stunned beyond belief. Toudou, Nagakura, and Gen-san watch from afar and are impressed.

Sei finally manages to get away, and as she passes by Okita, they give each other secretive glances. She smiles to herself happily, and the extra practice lessons from Okita has really paid off.

Nakamura begins his investigation in finding the truth about Kamiya Seizaburou's true gender. Although all his attempts lead him no where, he senses that Sei acts in a very suspicious manner. In yet another attempt, he asks Sei to go drinking sake, but she refuses. As we know, she and sake do not mix too well. (see volume 13, ch 65) Luckily for Sei, Okita interrupts.

Nakamura then notices how happy Sei becomes when she is around Okita, as opposed to the sullen look when around him. Her smiling face makes his heart quicken and he asks himself, "Have I fallen for Kamiya?"

The next morning, it appears that someone had a naughty dream. Unfortunately for Nakamura, everyone in the whole squad knows about it since they all sleep in the same room. Worse, is that Sei is also laughing at him. Unfortunately, she wouldn't be laughing had she known that he was dreaming about her. Nakamura can't take it anymore, and rushes outside. However, he can't contain himself and ends up having a nosebleed.

Nearby Okita and Saitou observe the ruckus. Okita comments, "Tanoshii mi desu ne." And Saitou ask "What is?" Okita's next line earns him Saitou's wrath, and he gets comically strangled. Saitou then thinks to himself, "I will kill that man." Okita pays no attention to Saitou's murderous thoughts and asks Sei if she'd like to eat breakfast with him. Nakamura wistfully watches Sei happily agreeing. He then realizes something, "Okita-sensei no sazoi nara." (If it were Okita...?)

Later, Sei discovers a note in her belongings. It's a letter signed by Okita, telling her to meet him at Tano-ya. Souda and Yamaguchi spy in on her, and after having a conversation with them, gets certain ideas creeping into her head.

When she arrives at Tano-ya, she ends up meeting Nakamura instead. Apparently, he had forged the letter and lured her there. She attempts to leave, but Nakamura pleads for her to wait. He then brazenly declares that he loves her. Sei completely ignores this and says that she's going home, but Nakamura has latched on to her. In their struggle, Nakamura says, "Hora yappari onago ja ne ka." (I think he means, 'As I thought, you are a girl after all' ?? )

Okita returns back to the headquarters, and meets Souda. Okita has no clue what Souda is talking about...

Back at Tano-ya, someone screams...
