Ch 100 Summary
Summary by Suika

For her undercover disguise, Sei is “Matsumoto Sei” the daughter of a “蘭医”
(“Ran-I” = lit. Orchid Doctor) from Edo. She has been robbed of her money and
belongings and is at Fushimi looking for her brother who had left home a year
ago.
Sei pretends to faint in front of the Inn but instead gets stepped on by a
man named Umetarou. He brings her into the inn and tells a woman named Haru
that he found a strange item in front of the inn. As Haru clamors for food and
water, Sei wakes up and finds herself in Umetarou’s embrace. He claims that
he’s being her pillow. Haru yells at him for being too much, while he asks if
she’s jealous.
Haru’s mother, Tose, comes in and silences the ruckus. Immediately Tose notices
that Sei is looking rather pale, like she’s lost quite a bit of blood. Tose
asks Umetarou to carry Sei to a room to stay. Sei protests and tells them she
has no money, but they still want to help her. Haru whispers to Sei to ask if
she’s on her period because there’s a bit of blood on her clothes. Sei is embarrassed,
and unfortunately for her Umetarou has heard everything.
In the room Umetarou starts speaking in a dialect from Tosa. Sei thinks how
Sakamoto Ryouma is also from Tosa and wonders if Umetarou may be him! Umetarou
starts talking in another dialect, this time from Satsuma. Haru comes in and
says that Umetarou knows a lot of dialects because he travels a lot. She remarks
that he’s a strange person.
Umetarou pouts at Haru, that married couples shouldn’t be putting each other
down. But Haru counters that they’re not married yet. Umetarou runs off to get
a love letter he had just written for Haru. Sei wonders if he could really be
Sakamoto Ryouma… But when she learns Umetarou’s letter is crassly written about
Haru’s buttocks, she begins to doubt it.
Elsewhere, Saitou and his subordinate have observed Sei’s successful entry
into the Inn.
The next plan of action is to wait for Sei to come out at 6 in the evening.
Saitou silently compliments Kamiya, and should anything happen he would definitely
protect his comrade.
Back home, a very worried Okita wonders where on earth could Sei have gone.
He is extremely upset and cannot think about anything else.
Later, Haru comes to Sei’s room with food and to chat. Sei continues her story
and tells Haru that her brother had left home because he wanted to be a “Bushi”
and Haru asks if he had joined the Shinsengumi.
Sei wishes to repay their hospitality and asks to help with the chores. While
Haru would love to have Sei help with the sewing, she gets chastised by her
mother for making their guest work when she needs rest. Being that Sei is on
her period, she is told not go out.
After the women leave Sei begins to wonder if these people are really so dangerous
when they have done nothing but show kindness to her.
Saitou waits for Sei to come out at the appointed time. But when only Haru
comes out, Saitou begins to fear that something has gone wrong.
Night has fallen, and Sei hears a noise outside her room. Suddenly she’s stabbed
by a sword and sputters “Sakamoto Ryouma?” But it turns out to be Okita! Sei
wakes up from her nightmare panting heavily, and thought she had died for real.
Sei thinks Sakamoto Ryouma must be like Okita, someone with a sweet gentle smile
but also a cold-blooded person.
Suddenly someone grabs her from behind and Sei wonders if it’s really Sakamoto
Ryouma this time?!
